Understanding Trauma-Informed Care

How Trauma-Informed Care Supports OUD Treatment

Many people with OUD have also lived through trauma, high stress, unstable housing, grief, violence, or painful medical experiences. These types of experiences can make it harder to trust a provider, keep appointments, or talk openly about your symptoms.

A trauma-informed approach helps by:

Reducing shame and fear during treatment

Explaining each step in clear, simple language

Giving you more choice and clarity in your care

Helping you understand why each part of treatment matters

Building trust between you and your care team

Supporting stability, safety, and long-term wellness

At BAART Programs, your team works with you instead of judging you. Your treatment plan is built around your needs, your goals, and your path forward.

“It sure is a relief that there are people in this world who actually understand addiction and the mechanisms that fuel it. My wife and I owe Trish, Tj, Ms. Sharon, Becky, and everyone there our lives! They have all gone to bat for us to help us get our child home. And for once it’s looking like we will have him home soon! We couldn’t have made a better decision than to walk through that door and ask for help. These people are not only great at what they do… they are genuinely good people, with integrity, and are really there to actually help with the recovery process. I hate to think where our lives would be if we never walked into BAART That day. We thank all of you guys for what you do! You guys don’t receive enough credit!!! Thank you”

Frequently Asked Questions

What is trauma-informed care?

Is trauma-informed care the same as trauma therapy?

No. Trauma-informed care shapes how care is delivered. Trauma therapy is a specific type of mental health treatment that may focus directly on trauma memories, symptoms, and healing.

Does BAART Programs offer trauma-informed MAT?

Yes. BAART Programs provides outpatient MAT with counseling and support in a respectful, judgment-free setting. Care is personalized to each person’s needs and recovery goals.

What medications are available?

Methadone and buprenorphine are available at both the Brighton, CO, and Sioux Falls, SD, locations.

Can I work while receiving treatment?

Yes. Treatment is outpatient, so many people continue working, attending school, caring for family, and keeping daily routines while receiving care.

Is MAT safe during pregnancy?

Methadone and buprenorphine may be used during pregnancy as part of an OUD treatment plan. BAART Programs coordinates care to support the parent and baby when pregnancy support is needed.
