Opioid Use Disorder Treatment Using Methadone
Opioid addiction can be difficult to treat because of the intense physical withdrawal symptoms. That is why we use a MAT approach that addresses the physical aspects of addiction so patients can concentrate on the other components of their treatment program. Methadone, a prescription medication commonly used for chronic pain, can be part of a MAT program. The drug attaches to opioid receptors in the brain without giving patients feelings of euphoria or a “high.”
To create a sense of structure as part of their recovery journey, patients using methadone come to our facility on a daily basis as well as attend individual counseling sessions up to four times monthly. Methadone helps patients focus on taking the first steps in their recovery journey rather than managing physical withdrawal symptoms.
New Sonara Health Take-Home Medication Program
BAART Programs Norwood now offers the exclusive Sonara Health take-home medication program, a tech-enabled solution that helps build patient and provider trust while expanding access to increased home medications following federal and state regulations.
Patients interested in participating in the program must meet certain eligibility criteria. Call our treatment center to learn more about the Sonara Health program.
Opioid Addiction Treatment with Buprenorphine and Suboxone®
Our MAT program also uses buprenorphine, a prescription medication that is typically used for pain management. Buprenorphine does not fully attach to opioid receptors, but it does help reduce withdrawal symptoms and cravings. Another medication used in MAT is Suboxone®, which is a combination of buprenorphine and naloxone, a medication used to rapidly reverse an opioid overdose, which will block opioid receptors and cause precipitated withdrawal symptoms..
When patients are on Suboxone®, they will not experience the withdrawal symptoms and cravings, and they will not be able to experience the “high” if they misuse an opioid. Suboxone® is a medication that can help patients focus on their recovery in a more manageable way. At BAART Norwood, we have a successful track record of serving patients by creating individualized opioid addiction treatment plans using Suboxone®.
