BAART Programs Berlin provides outpatient, opioid addiction treatment with medication, counseling, and supportive recovery services. Also known as Central Vermont Addiction Medicine, BAART Berlin is a member of the Care Alliance for Opioid Addiction in Vermont. The Care Alliance is a statewide partnership of clinicians and treatment centers providing Medication-Assisted Therapy (MAT) to individuals suffering from an addiction to opioids.
Medication-Assisted Treatment in Berlin, VT
Medication-assisted treatment with methadone is the benchmark for effective treatment of opioid addiction. For more than 50 years’ methadone has been tested and shown to provide withdrawal and craving management that allows individuals the opportunity to focus on all elements of long-term recovery. More recently buprenorphine and naltrexone, often known by their brand names Suboxone® and Vivitrol®, have been shown to provide withdrawal management support in early recovery as well.
In a medication-assisted therapy program you will work with a medical provider and counselor to determine the best medication to fit your unique needs and then find a therapeutic dose which eases withdrawal symptoms without creating feelings of euphoria as illicit opioids once did. Early in the program, daily visits may be a part of your treatment plan, but over time it is possible to earn take-home medication or transfer to a different level of care if the patient and provider agree that is the next step in the plan of recovery.
When the physical symptoms of opioid use are present, it is difficult for patients to evaluate the causes and consequences of their drug use, address general health and wellness needs or learn and implement positive coping mechanisms. All of these, including relapse prevention education, are essential parts of a comprehensive treatment plan. Individual, group and or family counseling sessions offer BAART Berlin patients the opportunity to address these key areas once the medication has begun to provide the physical support needed.
