Buprenorphine-Based MAT & Naltrexone Treatment
The FDA approved buprenorphine for opioid use disorder treatment in 2002. This modern option allows patients with mild to moderate symptoms to take their medicine at home. Since it has a “ceiling effect” where its potential for misuse stops at a certain amount, it helps patients stay safe while they go through treatment. Buprenorphine has long-acting effects that can let some patients take it every other day instead of every day.
In 2010, naltrexone, also known by the brand name Vivitrol®, was approved to treat opioid use disorder. It had previously been approved for the treatment of alcohol use disorder but was found to have clinical application for both disorders and is becoming more widely used as an alternative to daily medications.
Maintenance and Detoxification – Methadone Treatment in Oakland, CA
Methadone has seen decades of results in assisting patients in managing their withdrawal symptoms. Our methadone clinic in Oakland provides medication-assisted treatment (MAT) programs that let you take methadone in a safe environment. We can also help you taper off methadone when you need to stop taking it.
When you participate in our methadone-based MAT program, you’ll work with your treatment team to meet your recovery goals. Methadone can reduce your withdrawal symptoms and cravings to help you focus on your goals. During the first stages of treatment, you’ll take your medicine at the clinic every day. Once you meet the benchmarks established under federal and state laws, you can take your medication home.
In some cases, a patient needs to stop taking methadone. They may have a change in life circumstances or decide to discontinue their treatment. To ensure that you stay safe as you taper off your methadone, we can help you plan your detoxification. Most detoxification periods last for about 21 to 30 days.
Individual Opioid Use Disorder Counseling
A comprehensive MAT program includes one-on-one counseling with a therapist who specializes in opioid use disorder. They can help you set your recovery goals and work toward reaching them. Every patient who takes part in our programs has a unique experience in therapy. You might talk about past traumas that trigger your opioid use or learn skills that help you rejoin society, for instance.
Addiction and Relapse Education Services
At BAART Oakland, we believe it takes a community-centered approach to help patients with opioid use disorder. To follow this belief, we offer addiction and relapse education to community members and our patients. Our educators teach others about the risks of opioids and how to manage opioid use disorder. They also help patients understand how to reduce their risk of relapse and what to do if it happens. We want to support our patients when addiction presents challenges in life.
Personalized Treatment Plans and Pregnancy-Centered Care
Every patient who receives MAT at our Oakland clinic follows an individualized treatment plan that focuses on their needs. We’ll work with you to develop this strategy during your intake and change it as your needs evolve. Your treatment team will use your care plan to tailor their services to your recovery goals. As part of our personalized care, we also provide pregnant patients with individualized services. Our team will help you recover while keeping yourself and your baby safe.
